Art among les arbres

Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, saw the inauguration of the first annual Arts Among Les Arbres.  The event took place at Club Roma. A group of 120 students representing the culinary, music and visual arts took part in morning and afternoon workshops, separated by a luncheon.  The day’s workshops offered a variety of possibilities including aboriginal art, banquet preparation & service, ceramics, choir, drumming, floral design, jazz band, jazz vocal, and piano.

Following the day’s workshops, an evening art show and cabaret performance involving student and professional artists and entertainers took place.

Last summer's golf tournament

The  Golfing for Children and Youth Tournament and dinner took place on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at the Rolling Meadows Golf and Country Club, Niagara Falls. It was sponsored by Jericho House along with Community Living, Port Colborne–Wainfleet, Ontario.

After torrential rains the day before, tournament day dawned bright and sunny. There was brief rainfall during the tournament, but the 54 intrepid golfers just treated it as a refreshing shower. The golf was followed by a pitching contest, a terrific banquet, and prize distribution. Everyone went home with a prize.

Although the golfing was great, the good-natured banter and laughter were even better. All had a wonderful time and vowed to return next year, bringing along golfing partners. The committee is grateful to all who took part and to all our sponsors for making this year's tournament such a memorable success.

2009 barbeque event and 2010 one

The 2009 annual appreciation barbeque was scheduled for the new property on Rathfon Road, Wainfleet (see maps below) on Friday, June 17, at 6 p.m. The barbeque tradition enables Jericho House as an organization to express gratitude to our many supporters—and for everyone to meet and enjoy each other's company.

Every year for all of its eight years, the barbeque has been a big success, always with a warm and bright evening and a slight breeze to keep it bug-free. In 2009, we had relentless pouring rain.

Not to be daunted, about thirty-five of Jericho's guests simply moved from the shores of Lake Erie in Jericho, Wainfleet, to the residence at Jericho, Welland. They continued the grand tradition of good food, good company, and good times.

We all look forward to next year's barbeque. With construction on the horizon, we are looking forward to a July 2010 gathering that will take place at Jericho, Wainfleet, rain (inside) or shine (outside).
